Dirty Linen Magazine Ann & Phil Case - The Springtime
of Life Ann and Phil Case have produced a fine compact disc of old-time songs on The Springtime of Life. Ann sings the lead, and she has a strong, clear voice with a slightly smoky tone in the lower registers. Phil, like any good harmony singer, skillfully blends his voice behind Ann's. Ann's guitar work is simple, yet rhythmically solid, while Phil takes the lead on guitar and clawhammer banjo and does a great job on both. Standing out among the songs are two by Ola Belle Reed, "High On a Mountain" and "The Springtime of Life." Two Carter Family songs are performed well, as are a couple of bluesy numbers. (BEB) |
